Earth Sustainability Solutions (ESS) organized a World Wetlands Day 2026 awareness session in association with Nalanda Public School on 3 February 2026. The programme aimed to introduce students to the ecological and societal significance of wetlands, with particular emphasis on their linkages to climate change and climate-induced disasters such as floods and cyclones. The session highlighted the critical functions of wetlands in disaster risk reduction, preparedness, safety, and strengthening community resilience. Students were guided to understand how wetland ecosystems act as natural buffers by absorbing excess water, regulating hydrological cycles, and mitigating the intensity of extreme weather events.
Through interactive discussions and locally relevant examples, the session encouraged students to reflect on human–nature interactions and the growing environmental risks associated with a changing climate. The deliberations emphasized that degradation of wetlands not only intensifies vulnerability to disasters but also undermines biodiversity, water security, and long-term ecological balance.
The programme was presided over by the Principal of Nalanda Public School, Smt. Rajalakshmi Sivaraman. In her address, she underscored the importance of active student participation in environmental conservation initiatives and emphasized that sustained engagement of young generations is essential for building a resilient and environmentally responsible society.
The event concluded with an engaging exchange of ideas, reinforcing the importance of environmental literacy and collective responsibility in protecting wetlands and associated ecosystems. Through such initiatives, ESS continues its commitment to strengthening environmental awareness and fostering informed, climate-conscious communities.
